Abstract

The importance of recruitment in modern organizations has been increasing with the increased competition for skilled labor and efficient workforce management. A significant number of organisations are facing the problem of delays in recruitment, lack of communication and coordination, candidates dropping out and ineffective planning and this creates a negative impact on their organisational performance and recruitment. This research aims at exploring the possibilities of improving the hiring efficiency of the recruiting processes by using principles of project management. The research focuses specifically on the impact of project planning, communication management, project coordination and time management on the effectiveness of the recruitment process.

The method of the study is qualitative research with the philosophy of interpretivist and approach is inductive. Five semi-structured interviews were conducted with HR managers, project managers and recruitment specialists involved in aspects of the recruitment and project coordination processes. Purposive sampling was utilized and those who had the required professional experience were selected. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns and themes that emerged from the data collected to understand common themes in recruitment planning, the communication barrier, recruitment delays, and project management applications in recruitment.

Findings showed that principles of project management do have a favorable influence to the efficiency of recruitment process regarding planning, responsibility, communication, and monitoring and coordinating processes of recruitment process. The structured recruitment processes and efficient time management were also noted as factors that helped minimize delays and enhance the recruitment journey. However, the results also show that an over-formalized approach can also limit flexibility in recruitment in times of crisis. Overall, the study adds to the literature in both the human resource management and project management fields as a contribution to the qualitative description of recruitment as a project-based organizational activity, and with practical suggestions for enhancing recruitment efficiency in modern organizations.
